CHELTENHAM CHAMPION BUMPER. TIME TO ”SEE THE WORLD”. NICK MORDIN.
I think our purchase from France ,Antartica De Thaix dodged an almighty bullet when she was withdrawn before ”that” bumper at Wincanton last Thursday. I say ”that ” bumper because the like of it has never been seen before or will ever be seen in the future. It was quite simply extraordinary.
SEE THE WORLD was coasting clear before the home turn and was in the process of running a big figure and with the race safely in the bag he just decided that he was going to run straight ahead instead of taking the right handed home bend . The horse had to be pulled up by his jockey Aidan Coleman and that should have presented the race to Tony McCoy’s mount ,the Godolphin owned debutant ,Lincoln County, who went clear as a result but remarkably when Coleman checked that everything was ok with his mount he broke back into a trot and his mount got back into stride quickly but was twenty five lengths behind the leader and another horse with a furlong to run. He produced a sizzling final furlong burst to win by a mind boggling four and a half lengths.
I suggest you read Nick Mordin’s article in the Irish Field next Saturday where the great one will put the flesh on the bones of this incredible performance [there will be no guesswork as to what SEE THE WORLD did or might have done as presented by the comedy gang on their usual slot on Channel Four Racing last Saturday morning]. By the way Nick , I wish you the very best in your new venture and country and what a loss you will be to all of us. There has never been anybody who has revolutionized the game for punters the way you have and indeed you have helped out so many trainers throughout the years as regards been able to identify their horses likes and dislikes etc etc.. Many present day commentators and ”experts” alike are now using your methods but they will never get close to your limitless knowledge of our great sport. To my mind your scientific research into EIPH and the development of your ”rest pattern theory” is right up there amongst your greatest achievements and of course your ground breaking ”speed figures” are now famous and I guess the only real surprise for me is that you had to wait till now to be snapped up by a huge organisation. I wish you all the success in the world.
I had thought that Willie Mullins would win the Champion Bumper again this year and maybe he still will but he will have to produce a wonder horse if SEE THE WORLD runs up to his debut form. I rate Emma Lavelle’s horse to be the best debut bumper animal I have ever seen . The world is at his feet . 2 points win SEE THE WORLD at 25/1 with Paddy Power.
