ERLKONIG,PAT FLYNN,GUINNESS,WATERFORD,

Dear All,

The site is plus 28.5 after a few near misses so I need to address this in the coming weeks. There has been plenty happening and there is any amount of action to look forward too.

A few words about some of our purchases. TAHIRA ran a race brimful of promise in a very hot event at York and she looks very smart indeed and will be gaining black type in the not too distant future. The pressure is always on but she will deliver.

ERLKONIG ran into a very good mare when second on his Irish debut at Killbeggan on Friday evening. One does not expect to meet a ”good one” at this time of year but that is what happened and denied us a fortune at the remarkable return price of 16/1. We have lofty plans for him if he is not sold in the meantime. Tipperary in early June will see him in even better light if we hold on to him.

I must congratulate my neighbour Pat Flynn on achieving a remarkable milestone at Dundalk on Friday by winning his 700th race as a trainer. It did not get the recognition in the press that it deserved. The likeable and witty Rathgormack man is a genius at setting his charges out and his attention to detail is flawless. He has nurtured and cared for such household names like Montelado , French Ballerina, She’s Our Mark, Aries Girl and just recently the Hong Kong sensation, Designs On Rome. I was underbidder on him last year and how I wish that we had gone the extra few yards to get that horse. Well done Pat.

We have made more purchases lately and more about them later. One in particular is very exciting.

I must congratulate Man City and Arsenal on their great victories. I am delighted for Arsene Wenger in particular . He has taken some criticism , most of it just the usual spite from uninformed pundits and fans alike. You can never put a price on intelligence and Wenger has it in spades. His overall club management [squad and finances] has been nothing short of remarkable. He has overseen the seamless transition from Highbury to the Emirates and his dealing in the transfer market and cap on wages means that the Arsenal model is now the one that most clubs aspire to. He is a genius.

I will be downing several pints of the black stuff next Sunday in Thurles when Waterford take on Cork. We will be big underdogs but I will not hear of defeat. I strongly believe in this management team and although we are in genuine transition and have numerous injuries I feel we will have plenty in the tank. Come on lads !!!
