DAY 3 REVIEW. DIFFICULT BUT STILL AHEAD.

1 30: Ruby gave Felix Yonger a very poor ride . He had about 17 different positions throughout and was badly hampered but would not have won anyway despite that. He should have run in the Arkle – that was the real blunder. I am kicking myself I did not advise a saver on Taquin De Seuil as I gave him a big chance and especially as trained by John Joe. I got Uxizandre wrong but Oscar Whiskey and Mozoltov right and they will have to brush up their jumping, as feared.

2 05: Terrific finish with top weight Fingal Bay just getting up. Pineau De Reau ran huge and but for a last flight blunder would surely nearly have won [very unlucky]. Jetson ran big too.

2 40: A great ride by Tom Scudamore and a well deserved win. I got the race totally wrong. The punters needed that fav but my site is struggling now. Al Ferof never figured and jumped poorly. Benneficient went wrong but beaten anyway. Hidden Cyclone ran huge again and as with others at this meeting was targeted at the wrong race.

3 20: More Of That disproved my theory that such an inexperienced animal could land a modern day Stayers. He deserved it and is such a nice horse. John Joe O’Neill trained him to perfection for the big day. Annie Power ran her heart out but has had an unusual campaign and this is not her best trip over hurdles. She looked exhausted in the parade ring afterwards. At Fishers Cross looked the winner but was not good enough in the finish. At least Big Bucks and Rule The World came home safe.

4 00: Ballynagour hosed up and thank God as I was struggling and he breaks the losing streak and I suppose the only downside is that David Pipe is now level with John Joe for our leading trainer bet but overall I am delighted with that.

4 40: Spring Heeled saved the bacon for the Irish. Cause of Causes would have won but for his last fence blunder.

Overall I am happy with just a 1 and a half point loss on the day and with John Joe’s bet of 8/1 w/o Willie in the trainers championship still going and to be up 3.5 points overall on this very difficult festival is fine. Final day preview later and I will give it some go as usual.
