The market vibes before Lochnagar’s defeat were ominous and certainly at odds with what I believed was going to happen. Venetia always keeps her cards close to her chest and today was yet another example of that.

I did have a small worry with regard to her very poor record first time out with novice hurdlers and it didn’t half come back to bite us in the pocket today. I have rarely seen a classy type like him to jump as appallingly as he did. He either flung himself at his hurdles, jumped too big, stuttered into them ,hung left and right, Jesus it was awful. He looked as if he never saw a hurdle until today.

Do not give up on Lochnagar. He is a good horse, make no mistake.
