LOCHNAGAR MAKES HIS DEBUT.
I am always nervous when one of our purchases is about to run. People put their trust in you and the team to buy them an animal that you say is good enough to deliver. Today at Ludlow is such a day.
LOCHNAGAR runs in the 2 10 and anything other than a win will be a huge and bitter disappointment. Venetia Williams can do no wrong at present but I suppose the one note of caution is that she does have a poor record with hurdle debutants and moreover when they come from a foreign country.
This horse caught my eye a long time ago in his native Germany. He continually ran big numbers there and in forays into France. He finished close up behind the likes of Rio Perdido and Smoky Hill and in reality none of those races were run to suit as is typical in that country. They crawled early on and then sprinted. That did not suit Lochnagar who got caught out when they quickened but was staying on strongly late on. He has yet to race on heavy ground but it should not be a problem. He will definitely be better over further than this two miles here today but his class should see him through and comfortably at that.
It is a hectic few days for us [Malone,Stauffenberg,Cullinane] with IRVING due to go in the Dovecote at Kempton on Saturday so here’s hoping that LOCHNAGAR does what he is expected to do here.
2 points win and nap at opening show with Paddy Power who pay SP greater.
