BACK FOR GALWAY AND MORE. DERMOT WELD.
Hi everybody , I am returning for Galway. I will end season two prematurely at plus 82.5 points profit. That is on top of our first year gain of plus 180 approx so since this site started it is up 262.5 overall. I hope you all agree that is excellent. Our new year starts tomorrow and will finish this day next year. I hope to hit it big again.
I was happy to see NOVELLIST uphold our high opinion of him and German racing by winning the King George. I have new arrivals in from Germany and will tell you more about them soon. Fourmilewater himself has suffered more liver function problems and is only a shadow of the horse we thought he might be because of his illness.
Waterford bowed out of the Hurling Championship to a fading Kilkenny and that was disappointing. None of the players will mind me saying that as they will feel it themselves.
Galway , who I tipped were shambolic while my danger’s , Limerick, have every chance.
Anyway, I hope we start this season on a good note and hopefully the profits will keep rolling in.
Galway 5 10.
Dermot Weld will have his usual bonanza in the west and he has the hot favourite here in the first, Diplomat, but he is too short at even money. He will of course take all the beating but I am going to take him on with KING OF THE PICTS. He sets the standard on form and is a lovely price at 6/1 with PP. 1 pt win at those odds.
Galway 5 40.
REGUSCI is only first reserve here and will need a non runner in order to get in. That should happen. He fell when last seen over hurdles at Cork. He was gambled on that day and they say he would have won but I felt he had been too free early and was beaten when exiting. A recent spin on the flat should have his mind straight. This will not take much winning. Shrewd connections will be punting heavily I would say. He looks the part. 2 pts win at 4/1 PP.
Galway 6 10.
Weld has made this race his own over the years and will do so again today. I rate his MUSTAJEEB a near cert in this and will advise the bet strength in the morning when the prices are in.
Galway 6 45,
Weld has laid out Notable Graduate for the feature but CALL ME BUBBLES and Willie Mullins might edge him out. He will love the stiff finish and is unexposed over this trip on the flat. Great chance. 1 pt win at 6/1 PP.
Galway 7 15,
The Rosewell maestro will be at it again here with first time blinkered and handicap debutant PEACE ACCORD. He hasn’t been sighted in three maidens but has shown promise. As usual , this will have been the plan. 2 pts win at 11/4 PP.
Galway 7 45,
PAY DAY KITTEN will be another for Weld. She is my nap of the night. She can go on any ground but the drier the better. She is light framed so the 89 day break is a big help. She only just does enough so be prepared to sweat a little late on. The excellent Conor King takes 5 lbs off her massive weight. 3 pts win at 2/1 PP.
I will analyse the bumper tomorrow. Weld could have 5 winners on this opening night but 3 is more likely.
