Shu Lewis ran big yesterday so plus 2.5 on day so I start on 208 today.

The card at Kempton is anything but mundane and while it is difficult I think I have unearthed a few. I love racing at Kempton and it must be the fairest track in the country. The anti horse jumping brigade didn’t get their clutches into the executive at the London venue either as the fences are still formidable and I rate them second only in difficulty to Aintree’s mildmay obstacles. The attrition rate is high, whether it is a novice or handicap event.

Kempton 1 00. Henderson’s yard has kicked into form and he can take the first in the shape of GOLDEN HOOF. This once raced Oscar 4 year old was beaten in an average bumper but I thought he was green and the track did not suit. The favourite is the highly rated and regarded ex flat horse Ransom Note but I think he will pull hard and I am dubious whether he will make it at this game. He is fresh though which is in his favour as all his wins have come off a lay off. I take the Seven Barrows inmate to win and the 15/8 with Corals looks too big. 1 pt win Golden Hoof.

Kempton 2 05 . I would love to advise Muldoons Picnic here. However it would be akin to a death wish as his jumping is so poor. He is the best horse in the race and by quiet some margin but I am fearful these big black fences will claim him. Pity.

Kempton 2 40. Splendid Pertemps Qualifier for Cheltenham. Black Thunder and Bold Chief stand out. Paul Nicholls will be trying to beat his former pupil Harry Fry who has inherited some of the Ditcheat maestro’s horses. I do not know did he give him the horses or were they moved by the owners, maybe somebody can enlighten me ?

Anyhow he will be taking dead aim at his former horse and assistant with Black Thunder who will be ridden by the ever cheerful Ruby. This horse is trying the trip for the first time and there is just a niggle of a doubt whether he will get it on the softening ground. He is hot favourite and is entitled to win but I am going to take him on .

BOLD CHIEF can beat him. On a serious line of form through Captain Sunshine he has five pounds in hand and this is significant . He is best fresh and the ground will hold no fears . I like him here. 1 pt win Bold Chief 11/2 with Ladbrokes.

Kempton 3 45. The ex Hen Knight LOCH BA can improve for the switch to ”new ” National Hunt trainer Mick Channon. He is not new of course and I have been touting his impressive strike rate to all and sundry when he puts one in a jumps race. It now looks as though poor Henrietta had too much on hand to train properly over the past few years as most of the horses that were under her care have suddenly improved for moving to new trainers. This is not a criticism as her husband had been very ill. She was a brilliant trainer. I do believe that she is helping Channon so that is good.

Loch Ba has been punted off the board from 4/1 last night to 9/4 best now. The last 100 yards of this 3 mile race could be hard to watch as his stamina will be running out but I take him to win. 1 pt win 9/4 generally.
