FIRST BREEDERS CUP SELECTION
A decent day today for us with 2 winners , a second and an unplaced. Plus 4.5 points on day and up to 205.5 overall.
My first Breeders Cup selection is Grandeur who is running on the undercard on Friday night / Saturday morning at 12 .15. The race is the Twilight Derby , a Grade Two event for three year olds. I must double check that time for you later.
There will be better value in several races by taking the USA SP returns. Most decent bookmakers [ yes, they do exist ] will offer this. State it when having your bet if I advise same.
Like most USA turf races the local horses are not up to much and usually if there is a shipper from European shores they are invariably stronger. Grandeur fits the bill perfectly. To add a little spice , Dermot Weld also saddles a fancied runner in the shape of Speaking Of Which.
I much prefer the Jeremy Noseda British trained 3 year old grey gelding by Verglas. He is a handy type that should be suited by the tight track and his post position of 7 is ok. He can be a little keen and has to be delivered late so I will be hoping for a crazy early pace.
This unique Santa Anita track is something else . I was lucky enough to own a filly that was good enough to run in the Grade One Santa Anita Oaks a few years back and I will never forget the experience. The backdrop of the San Gabrial Mountains and the hospitality of the Americans was top class. It is a fabulous place and the atmosphere is second to none. The track is a miniature version of Epsom with the hill and straight much shorter. In fact the homestraight is too short. It can pay to be on the pace.
I will go into more detail about this great meeting tomorrow.
My first Breeders Cup bet is 2 points win Grandeur and I will advise price later.
