RACING POST DAY SAT 27TH OCT.TRADING LEATHER.

Plus 4 points on Friday so up to 204.5 overall, couple of seconds hit us hard again. We are doing nicely though.

We have a really good day’s racing today and one of our favourite horses is running.

Doncaster 3 05 TRADING LEATHER 9/4. It is no secret how highly I rate this horse. He duly lived up to my expectations when winning a Group 3 at HQ a fortnight ago . It was a muddling event and he just got going in time to rally and get back up to beat the very smart Montiridge.

His performance might not have looked breathtaking to the naked eye but he ran a very fast time again to back up his very impressive maiden win at Gowran Park.He is a big colt that probably lacks a bit of strength for his sizable frame and we will not see the best of him until next year but he should still be best today.

He has a relentless powerful stride and a big heart to go with it. Jim Bolger ,his trainer, says that he must have good or faster ground. That being so , I guess we should be worried about the forecast soft going but I think his class will pull him through.

Aidan O’Brien has a terrific record in this Group One contest and he supplies the favourite in the shape of the once raced maiden winner Kingsbarns. He was impressive that day at Navan , no doubt, but this is a huge leap up the ladder to top company . I just do not see him getting the better of Bolger’s horse.

Richard Hannon’s unbeaten Van Der Neer and Mark Johnston’s Steeler might be much more formidable opponents.

However, when they all have to look Trading Leather in the eye coming into the last furlong and try to get past him I believe they will cry enough. Trading Leather is second only to Dawn Approach on my 2 year old ratings all year and I maintain will be better than him next season so I will be out looking for a rather large rock to hide under by 3 10 if he fails to bring the Racing Post Trophy home.

Come on The Enforcer. 2 points win Trading Leather 9/4.

More later…
