MONDAY 15TH OCTOBER . DE LA SALLE.
A good weekend sees us go up to 197.5 points profit .
I would like to congratulate De La Salle on their impressive victory in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship. They were well up for it and can now go on to represent our county with pride for the forthcoming battles in their quest for Munster and All Ireland glory. They deserved their victory and timed their preparation to perfection . Derek McGrath said on radio yesterday that they took a three week break mid season and it was a massive difference. I would agree with him on that one . You must be at your peak when it is needed most and you can only do that by planning. It is the same in all sports nowadays , lots of teams and individual athletes are nearly of the same ability but it is the coach and managers that matter most in terms of getting and timing his /her team to deliver the knockout performance when it comes to the big games but the players must buy into this equally as much , in the end it is they who are putting their bodies on the line and are taking the hits week in week out. There are too many demands being placed on the players in every aspect now and they are amateurs. Freshness is the key word. If an athlete is not fresh he /she will not be able to give 100%. De La Salle’s sole mission all year was yesterday , nothing else mattered to them, they delivered and deservedly so.
Their physical dominance helped them in no small way and Jack Kennedy is a huge addition to them.
Dungarvan can be very happy with their season and will improve further as they play a lovely brand of open hurling and are a joy to play against at anytime.
It is back to the drawing board for us at Fourmilewater and we are still sore at losing out having lost only 1 championship game all season . That is the way the famous cookie crumbles and it counts for little this morning that we were the only team to beat De La Salle in the big one all year and they equalising late on to snatch a draw in last years match.
I wish John Mullane and his merry men all the best in Munster and All Ireland now and will be supporting them as I have all Waterford Club Champions in the past when they go on looking for further glory.
On a different note I see on the wires there that Stephen Kelly refused to board the plane for the game against the fisherman of the Faroe Islands after an altercation with Tardelli . He eventually reconsidered and joined his team mates on the plane. This is just another act in the bizarre drama that is Trapattoni and Tardelli. For Christ sake will somebody other than me shout STOP !!.
More later …..
